Focus: Why some animals have evolved to be active at night, rather than in the day. How are their bodies adapted to surviving this way?
Grade: 4-6
Duration: 1 hour
Max Numbers: 30 students per session
Lesson Highlights:
Students will identify the challenges faced by nocturnal animals and we discuss the different adaptations used for survival by some of our native animals.
As a group, we venture into a forest just as the nocturnal animals are waking! Students will spot different animals in the forest and we discuss features of each. We also use our holographic cubes to examine a few focus animals.
As a group, we will discuss how human activity can change habitats, how pest species can affect survival and how we can care for our environment and it's wildlife by simply changing our actions.
Time permitting, we give students some 'nature appreciation' time using some free-choice 360 degree videos.
