Overview Focus: Earths core, plate tectonics, volcanoes, types of rocks (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic) Grade: 4-6, 8-10 Duration: 1 hour Max Numbers: 30 students per session Lesson Highlights: Find out why Earth is like an onion! Students will quite literally travel through the crust and mantle down to the Earths core to see what it's like down there. We also discover how earthquakes happen and get a unique view of how volcanoes are formed. Followed by some group discussion about mitigation measures and how communities are kept safe. And as always, time permitting, some nature appreciation time with free choice videos! Gr 8-10 We cover the above topics a little more briefly and focus more on plate tectonics, the rock cycle (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks) and minerals and their uses. |
