Focus: Scientific classification, living / non-living and everything in between!
Grade: 3-6
Duration: 1 hour
Max Numbers: 30 students per session
Lesson Highlights: Why do we classify things? Why do we give them special names? How does this help us?
Using our 3D holocubes and a branching tree worksheet, we sort and classify some of our AR animals as a group. We look at their features and use what we already know about them to work our way down the branching tree and identify each one.
Having a break from VR, we watch a short video on how to tell if something is alive or not? We then rotate around different stations with our worksheet and sort items into categories such as living, non-living, once living and product of a living thing.
As a group, we will discuss how classifying things helps us learn about them, take care of them and how we can care for our environment in the future by changing our actions.
As always, time permitting, we allow for some 'nature appreciation' time at the end of the lesson with some free choice VR videos.
