A very 'hands-on' program, with a large component being the sorting and identification of freshwater macro-invertebrates.
'Healthy Water Ways' investigates the origin of our water supply in SEQ, why it's critical that our catchments remain healthy and how scientists can determine waterway health.
And of course, how all these things are interconnected with the oceans and ecosystems.
With a multimedia presentation, we investigate the importance of healthy waterways.
Students will then work in small groups to participate in a practical waterbug ID activity.
We discuss features used in identification, presence / absence and how this relates to water quality, record findings and create a class tally sheet, which can be used for post visit learning.
An engaging and interactive program that will leave your students excited (and educated!) about the amazing world of water bugs!
