Focus: What are the challenges involved in getting to Mars and possibly colonizing the red planet? Is it possible?
Grade: 7 - 9
Duration: 1 hour
Max Numbers: 30 students per session
Lesson Highlights: We experience all the stages of getting to the Moon, from Mission Control, to lift off and the Moon's surface. This provides a starting point to plan a much more challenging journey to Mars!
Students will discover the features of Mars and suggest what kind of information we need to plan a mission to Mars or to build a base for colonization.
We look at the equipment currently used to collect data, then we observe and explore the planet itself to see first-hand what it would be like to live on Mars.
Our last adventure of the day, see's us exploring the ISS! Looking for clues on how astronauts live there and how they undertake important research.
As always, time permitting, students will have some 'space appreciation' time at the end, with some free choice videos.
